Blanchards Bailey came to life through the merging of several long-established Dorset firms.
1900s
In the early 1900s the firm of Blanchards was founded by John Blanchard's father Douglas in Blandford Forum
1920s
The firm of Luff & Blanchards (co-founded by Douglas Blanchard) was formed and held offices in Blandford Forum
1960s
The firm of Bailey & Co, then known as MW Bailey & Co, was formed and was based in Blandford Forum, operating primarily from The Plocks in the town centre
1980s
Langs solicitors firm was formed, by David and Jean Lang, and was based in Dorchester and Blandford Forum
1980s
In the late 1980s Firms Langs and Luff & Blanchards merged under the name 'Blanchards' retaining a strong presence in Blandford Forum and consolidating their offering in Dorchester by working from the Langs offices at 55 High Street, Dorchester
2001
The firm Blanchards then merged with Creech & Co who were based in Dorchester, increasing their offering outside of Blandford Forum
2003
Blanchards extended their Stour Park offices in Blandford Forum giving more space for the growing firm
2005
Blanchards' Dorchester office moved to Stowey House in the development of Poundbury giving an opportunity to extend business in this growing town
2007
Merger talks began between the firm Blanchards based in Blandford Forum and Dorchester and the firm Bailey & Co based in Blandford Forum and Shaftesbury
2009
The merger was completed and the new partnership Blanchards Bailey LLP was formed
2015
Blanchards Bailey's Poundbury office moved from Stowey House to the prominent Newborough House on Queen Mothers Square
2023
Blanchards Bailey is now a firm of 105 staff with office in Blandford Forum, Dorchester, Shaftesbury and Weymouth and is ranked in the Legal 500 UK directory as one of the top firms in the South West
