Law firm pieces together support for local, Mosaic – Supporting bereaved children
Law firm Blanchards Bailey has named an organisation which supports bereaved children and young people across Dorset as its charity of the year.
The award-winning firm has signed up as a corporate sponsor of Mosaic and staff will spend the next 12 months fund-raising, volunteering and helping the charity.
Mosaic, established in 2007 and based in Milborne St Andrew, near Blandford, provides a range of support to children and families who have experienced the loss of a loved one either through sudden, traumatic or expected death.
Blanchards Bailey Managing Partner Paul Dunlop said: “It is a sobering thought that an estimated 2,500 children In Dorset will be bereaved of a close relative every year, equivalent to 48 per week or seven per day.
“Of those, around 10 per cent will need to access Mosaic’s services to help support them through this most challenging time in their lives. If they do not get support they are at risk of challenging behaviour, academic underachievement, mental health problems, crime, early mortality or suicide.
“Therefore, as a law firm fully committed to serving the Dorset community professionally, we also wanted to give something back to the county through this most worthwhile of causes. Our team will be doing everything possible for Mosaic.”
Zoe Minogue Hughes, Mosaic’s Corporate fundraiser, said: “We are thrilled that Blanchards Bailey have chosen Mosaic as charity of the year. We rely on fundraising, donations and grants to carry out our vital work.”
“It has been a challenging time for all charities following the pandemic so we are also keen to raise awareness of Mosaic across Dorset – and linking with such a prominent law firm as Blanchards Bailey will certainly help boost our profile and support.”
“It is a privilege to work with so many families at school and in their homes. Our therapists really make a difference to the families we work with supporting children during a difficult time in their lives.”
In addition, Mosaic runs a series of workshops designed for professionals helping and enabling them to feel confident when supporting bereaved children and young people.
Mosaic hosts residential weekends as part of their therapy programme three times a year, for bereaved children and young people to meet with others in a similar situation, where they do fun and reflective activities. Residential weekends are often funded by corporate sponsors.
The charity will also be raising awareness at events like the Broadstone Art Society Auction on November 10-11, the Vivamente Christmas Concert in Corfe Mullen on December 3 and the Dorchester Christmas Cracker on December 11.
Now over 100 strong, Blanchards Bailey is a Legal 500 firm – making it one of the top firms in the South West – and is based in Blandford with offices in Poundbury, Shaftesbury and Weymouth.
